I’m on a panel with Vashti Harrison

Updated: Apr 21

This weekend is the BAM Festival (Books Art Music) at the Mandel Public Library in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida.

I’ll be moderating a panel called EVERY STORY IS AN ADVENTURE, which is awesome and kind of perfect for me! For years my motto has been…

“When You READ, Every Day is an Adventure!”

I’m also on a drawing/collage panel called UNIQUELY ME, which is TERR-I-FYING! Why?

Well…

  1. I’m not an illustrator

  2. I’m on the panel with Vashti Harrison…the 2024 winner of the Caldecott Medal

  3. I’m not an illustrator!

When I pointed this out to the festival organizers, they told me not to worry. I don’t have to draw. I can do a collage or some other form of artwork to express “my true self.” Fortunately, my true self is a big chicken because that’s what I’m going to make. A pop-up book chicken. Crisis averted. 🤣🐔

I’m still a little nervous about the entire thing. But I’m also thrilled to hang out with so many amazing authors and illustrators including Neal Shusterman, James Ponti, Carmen Oliver, and Tyler Whitesides. I’m especially excited to meet Vashti Harrison. Her book BIG is a favorite of mine.

I’m hoping she’ll agree to do an interview with me that I can share with you in the coming months.
